San Salvador, Bahamas

May 17 – 24, 2008

With Leader Joe Vicere

I could tell you all about pristine white sandy beaches with no one else around, or 80+ degree water with up to 200 feet of vis. How about sheer walls covered with gorgonians, black coral and all that stuff? Or, I could speak of innumerable reef critters sporting every color imaginable. How about Mr. Big? You know … Hammerhead sharks … Pilot whales … those kind of things. Yeah I could go on endlessly OR… I could invite you to see for yourself.

Way back when, I was looking for a place to honeymoon with my new bride, and acting on a recommendation from a "trusted friend" (Jonathan) we took off to Riding Rock Inn on San Salvador in the Bahamas.

Our criterion was simple. We wanted an easy going down to earth place far removed from the glitz which had GREAT diving and not much else. (We figured we could easily occupy the non-diving hours doing "newlywed things")

To make a long story short, we have returned to the island of Christopher Columbus’s first landfall many times since and never tire of it.

The typical day starts at the inn where breakfast is served buffet style. No one walks away hungry. Then off to the dive boat where a short boat ride takes you to the first site. There it is ...the wall … starting in around 40 or so feet then plummeting to over 3,000!

Electric blue water surrounds you and the sea life is like you have never seen. We meet back on the boat, with lots of excited "did ya see" questions and then off to the second site. Oh, just more of the same, you know, turtles, sharks, rays and all that. Back to the inn for lunch and more did ya see its. Later that afternoon we hop aboard the dive boat again for our third dive of the day.

Supper is served and is the usual fantastic meal we’ve by now become accustomed to.

How ‘bout a cold Kalik at the bar served up by one of the friendliest most gracious ladies on the island (Peaches)? The sad thing about all of this is that we have to get up and do it all over again tomorrow. Pretty rough but somebody’s gotta do it.

Yeah, I COULD go on and on but save me the trouble … JOIN US… for some of the best diving you will ever experience…guaranteed!
