Waterfront Diving Center Fall / Winter 2004 - 2005

We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable holiday season. Now the real winter is upon us and for most divers thoughts turn from our local New England diving to warm water tropical destinations. Whether you are traveling with us on one of our winter trips, or going on your own, let our staff help make your trip more enjoyable. From books on your tropical destination, to the latest in snorkeling and diving equipment we can enhance your warm water fun.

EVENTS

Things in the Past

This past summer was a very active one in the local dive community. Our summer Wednesday evening charters started in mid-June and continued until early October. During many of the summer weeks our charters filled over a week in advance and so a Thursday evening charter was added. Our summer trips to Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River with the shop staff member and divemaster Lisetta Hansen were a great success.
We conducted two trips to dive the Isle of Shoals off the coast of Maine with Divemaster Joe Vicere. Both of these trips were well attended and provided some great diving although the September trip was plagued by rough weather on one of the days.
Our annual Fall trip to Lake Willoughby did not suffer the same fate and great weather added tot he fun. Our annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest was also a great success. Fourteen divers, several people for surface support, and a picture perfect Fall day all added to the fun of the event.

SHOP TALK

Congratulations to long-time customer and friend, Tony Vargo, for completing the challenging NAUI Dive Master program.

Dive Master extraordinaire, Joe Vicere, took the plunge (no pun intended) and became a NAUI instructor this Summer. Joe has been our most active and longest serving divemaster. Every Wednesday evening for the past several summers Joe could be found on the dive boat leading our charters. Joe will be taking all his experiences of divemastering and applying them to the training of new students. We welcome Joe's enthusiasm and depth of experience in a new capacity at WDC

If it has been some time since you have visited the shop, stop in ! We have expanded and now occupy the entire first floor. Walls have been removed, displays rearranged and the repair area and rental room expanded. The expanded space will enable us to serve our customers better.

We would like to thank all those that have given their time and energy to help make our classes and events so successful. It requires a lot of effort to teach a class of neophytes how to become competent divers. From the lugging of equipment, to assisting in demonstrating skills in the pool or lake, our volunteers help make it happen. It also requires a great deal of effort to make an event run smoothly. Whether it is weekend long events like Willoughby, Kittery, or Lake Ontario, or one-day events like the Pumpkin dive or New Years's Day Dive, friends always pitch in to help. From hauling the compressor, to help with cooking the food, their efforts make things go smoothly. We would like to give our volunteers and friends heartfelt thanks
