WINTER TRIPS 2012

Little Cayman

February 25 - March 3, 2012

Join Instructor Wade Labrecque as he returns to Little Cayman Island for a week of spectacular diving at the Little Cayman Beach Resort. Little Cayman Island offers you the best, most pristine diving in the Caribbean.

You leave Saturday, February 25, 2012 from the Burlington International Airport for Little Cayman Island, the least developed of the Cayman Islands. With a resident population of less than 170, most of Little Cayman remains uninhabited. Only 10 miles long and a mile wide, it still offers that rare combination of sun-blessed solitude, glistening beaches and miles of untouched tropical wilderness. Here the iguanas and rare birds outnumber humans.

On Little Cayman; diving is the main attraction - especially on famous Bloody Bay wall and Jackson Point. Bloody Bay Marine Park is one of the world's truly legendary dive sites: the sheer coral wall begins at 20 ft. and plunges to 6000 ft. offering a spectacular dive for all levels. Colorful coral gardens, wavering sea plumes and exotic tropical fish thrive among more than 50 unique dive sites. Last January we dove with turtles, nurse sharks, stingrays, reef sharks, eels and eagle rays.

Prepare yourself for the easiest diving experience ever- Valet diving: At Reef Divers divers don’t have to lug their gear every day from their rooms or on the boat. All divers receive a mesh bag upon check-in at the dive shop and place their gear outside their door on the first morning. Divers set up their gear the first time on the boat and after that, the Reef Diver crew changes their tanks after every dive. At day’s end, the Reef Divers crew rinses your dive gear on the boat while divers take their mask, fins and wetsuits to the rinse tanks and drying room on the dock.

But there is plenty for the non-diver to do. A short walk or bike ride will bring you to Little Cayman beaches that are pristine and look like they were cut right out of a magazine. With soft white sand and every shade of blue the water is an ideal place to get some sun and explore the shores of the island. You can snorkel exploring the wonders of the many reefs located just off shore. Take a kayak and picnic out to Owens Island and enjoy the feeling of being the last person on earth.

Exceptional fishing can be done on Little Cayman.  Bonefish, small tarpon and permit, particularly in South Hole Sound lagoon, anglers looking for light tackle action along the coast. The 15-acre Tarpon Pond is always filled with small, but feisty, game fish.

This is the hub of island activity and you will find something for everyone.  Weekly events include a Manager’s Rum Punch Reception, karaoke, trivia, and other theme nights.

Each year, guests attempt to one-up one another with increasingly complex pieces of art, and the bar and resort grounds proudly feature them. Check out Waterfront Diving’s logo artfully done by Dick Becker this year and then sign you name.

Anthony's Key Resort,
Roatan Honduras

April 21-28, 2012

For over thirty years, Roatan has welcomed the diver and non-diver alike, with crystal blue waters and lush tropical vegetation. The setting is ideal for a tropical getaway vacation. Our accommodations are bungalows on stilts, some over the water, with big louvered windows to take advantage of the tropical breezes. In the open air dining area three delicious meals a day are served. The dive operation is very well run; a fleet of roomy, custom dive boats, staffed with helpful, friendly divemasters, take divers to a wide variety of sites just minutes from the dock. Most sites are suitable for any skill level, and divers can expect to see schools of colorful tropical fish, moray eels, turtles, rays, and maybe even whale sharks! With water temperature in the 80’s and visibility approaching 100 feet, it’s no wonder AKR is considered to be a diver’s paradise.

One of the great things about AKR is that it also has a lot to do for the non-diver. The Dolphin Research Institute is based on the adjoining property and there is the opportunity to snorkel or dive with the dolphins. From AKR property guests are free to go paddling in a kayak, go horseback riding, go for a swim in the pool or just relax in a hammock under a palm tree.
