Join Waterfront Diving Center Instructor and award winning photographer Jim Squires for incredible diving!

This northeastern Caribbean triangle (St. Kitts - Saba - St. Maarten) offers some of the hemisphere's best diving, and there is no better way to explore dozens of divers dive sites on multiple islands than on the diver-friendly liveaboard Caribbean Explorere. Once you step aboard this floating hotel, all you have to do is literally roll out of bed and into the water. Whether you chart your own dive with your buddy or choose to guded by the eagle-eyed divemasters, you are guaranteed to see pristine marine life - large and small - amid the rainbow reefs with every fin kick.

We'll plan up to five dives per day begining with several days in St. Kitts followed by 3 days of diving in Saba (one of WDC's favorite but infrequently visited islands) before returning to St. Maarten for our reluctant return home. This is first-rate "valet diving" where your gear awaits you once the "conch is blown" with attentive staff to help you slip in and out effortlessly. There's scrumptious fresh food ready every time you come out of the water (love the post-night dive "adult" hot chocolate), and you are in complete contorl of how much diving, reading, or napping you choose to do.

Special Photography-Focused Bonus: With many divers now entering the water with underwater cameras and videos, this is truly an UW photographer's paradise. To take full advantage, WDC Instructor Jim Squires has agreed to create a "photo-friendly" trip by offereing his expertise onboard free of charge. There will be time dedicated daily for interested shutterbugs of any ability (or lack thereof) to share their imates and receive gentle pointers so they disembark with some amazing "keepers". Also, Jim will plan a friendly photo contest onboard. Not an official UW photography class, you'll need to provide your own camera, card reader, and computer with photo software (Photoshop and Lightroom can be downloaded free for 30-day trials before you leave).

Bonaire Shore Diving

Photo By WDC Diver Ted Albers, February 2016

WDC Instructor Shelagh Cooley is leading a week-long trip to the shore dive capital of the Caribbean, Bonaire. Buddy Dive Resort sets you up to explore the 60+ dive sites with your buddy right from the shore and on your own schedule!

Bonaire's healthy reefs and abundant marine life are sure to keep you enthralled and excited to keep diving. This is a great place for all abilities and interests. There are small creatures, big tarpon, turtles, rays and more! Dive sites range from deep to shallow, allowing you to pick your depth and maximize your bottom time by coming up slowly along the barrier reefs into the shallows. The shallows are great for snorkeling and diving, often offering more marine life than anywhere else! On average, Bonaire's visibility exceeds 100 feet and average water temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The fringing reef begins close to the shore, usually a short 30 foot swim or less, making Bonaire world renowned for its ease of shore diving.

Bonaire's waters offer something special for every diver. Newer divers will appreciate the calm waters and minimal currents. These conditions make it an ideal location to really work on improving those buoyancy skills! More experienced divers can checkout the Hilma Hooker shipwreck or explore the deeper sections of the reef. For experienced divers, East Coast Divers will take divers to the windy side of the island for an adventure, sure to please to looking for a challenge. All levels of divers can enjoy the freedom of unlimited 24/7 shore diving in addition to the scheduled boat dives which depart in the mornings and afternoons.

Divers can pick up tanks anytime of day or night at the "tank drive thru" or on the dock at the waters edge. This trip includes unlimited tanks, either air or nitrox. There are rinse tanks and lockers for divers, making Buddy Dive setup ideal for shore diving. There are also things to do for the nondiver in the family. Enjoy windsurfing, free diving, cave exploration, mangrove kayak and snorkel, mountain biking and more. Travelers can explore the Slagbaai National Park on the northern end of the island to see the fascinating geology, impressive waves and the occasional donkey wandering by.

The resort has spacious one, two and three bedroom apartments, a full service dive center, activity desk, two swimming pools, two restaurants, pool bar, vehicle rentals and the famous drive-thru air and Nitrox fill station. From each apartment, you'll enjoy the view of either the ocean or lush tropical gardens from your own private balcony or patio.

    Maldives on the Manthiri Liveaboard

Why Dive the Maldines on the Manthiri?

Mantas, Whalesharks, Turtles, Octopus, Schooling Fish and More!

Join Waterfront Diving Center Co-Owner and Instructor Robert "Ski" Wilczynski for this dive trip of a lifetime, to one of the top all-around dive destinations on the planet, the Maldines. Ski had the opportunity to dive the Maldives in September 2016 and loved it so much that he wants to go back! Perhaps nowhere else in the world is the marine life as rich, divers or colorful as in these warm waters of the Indian Ocean.maldives manta

Located Southwest of India, the Maldives consists of 26 atolls stretching 470 miles across the equator. The Maldives are defined a garland shaped atoll chain dotted with countless reefs and 1,190 islands, nearly a thousand uninhabited. This is one of the most exciting places for fish photography and a nearly perfect year-round dive destination. Imagine yourself drifting over channels, lingering over pinnacles or drop-offs, and exploring valleys of soft corals and gardens of hard corals croweded with fish. Maine life incldues but not limited to tropicals to pelagics, morays, mantas, turles, octopus, sharks, whalesharks and large schools of fish. Encounters with 10,000 to 100,000 schooling fish of a dozen eagle rays are not uncommon.

When not in the water diving, divers will spend time on board the Manthiri. Manthiri is a beautiful 85-foot liveaboard vessel built of fine tropical timber, and custom-designed for dive cruises. The wide beam of 25 feet contributes toward a stable hull and minimizes rocking motion and allows for 6 spacious cabins. Cabin configurations consist of four cabins with two twin beds and two cabins with one queen-size bed. No more than twelve guests are on each cruise and the attentive eleve-person crew ensures that every need is met.

All cabins have private bathrooms with hot water showers, convenient hair dryers, individually controlled air conditioning and minibars. There's plenty of storage in every cabin, including a locker and drawers for clothes and luggage stowage.

Manthiri's teak paneled salon is one of the largest found on any vessel of this size. This lounge area is furnished with six sofas, a music system, DVD player and multi-system TV/VCR with video camera viewing capabilities. The camera salon is equiped with a well-lit work station, spacious tables to store cameras, and ample 230V and 110V power outlets. Manthiri has been outfitted by professionals with underwater photographers in mind.

maldives fishManthiri's top deck is arranged to accomodat both sun worshippers and shade seekers. Deck chairs are ideally placed for soaking in the rays, icy drink in hand or star-gazing in the evening. For full details and pictures of the boat visit their website at www.manthiriliveaboard.com.

A seperate specially outfitted dive tender, called a dhoni, provides a home for all dive gear, compressors, and Nitrox systems. The dive boar has a full bathroom with a shower and one outside shower. This is a very spacious boat as four people can giant stride into the water at one time and there is a very stable ladder to get back on board.

With other 20 years of experience diving the Maldives, the crew has discovered new dive sites that are exclusive to Manthiri guests. This, along with only 12 guests per voyage, means less diver congestion in the water. The crew also knows the best times to visit certain sites to see specific marine life based upon the time of year, currents, phase of the moon, etc. Visitors can expect to see species that include, but are not limited to whalesharks, mantas, turles, octopus, eels, soft and hard corals and more...

The food on Manthiri is wonderfully prepared and plentiful. Trained at a top Maldivian Resort, professional chefs ensure a sophisticated twist on the contemporary flavors of the Maldives, as tasteful blend of East and West. With ten years of serving on board Manthiri, the chefs know precisely how to pamper divesr with the finest seafood, aromatic local specialities, and global cuisine guaranteed to suit the palates of guests from around the world.
